Dear Daisy Mae,
It may not be the Age of Aquarius, but the stars and planets are aligning and the time is quickly approaching for the 45th anniversary of our graduation from Agnes Scott College. A lot has happened in the five years since we last met. Many more of us have retired and welcomed our first or additional grandchildren. With these new perspectives on life and love, we know now (more than ever) the meaning of true and lasting friendship. What better time is there than this to gather and celebrate our accomplishments, joys and new appreciation for life?
Our Reunion Committee members (Carolyn Arant Handell, Janet K. Jackson, Janet Bolen Jackson and Marcia Knight) have been working to secure for us a weekend of fun. We will meet Friday evening on campus with classes from the ’70s to the ’90s in and around Campbell and Dana to begin our festivities. Our class meeting will be held on Saturday morning—don’t miss it or you may find yourself elected class president for the next five years! The highlight of the reunion most assuredly will be our Saturday night party in the Bradley Observatory. We will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by heavy hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. At 8 p.m. we will be treated to a planetarium show—even spouses and significant others will not want to miss this unique experience.
I’ve also heard from our secretary, Ann Cowley Churchman, that the president’s “new” home will be open for tours during the weekend. It is located a block south of and across the street from the current home, in an old Victorian home built by George Washington Scott’s son. Watch for more information on all activities and an opportunity to register for the events in early spring.
Our times shared at Agnes Scott and in the eight reunion years since 1973 have created for us wonderful memories of sisterhood and camaraderie. Our squeals have lowered in pitch perhaps, but our hearts are forever young and able to connect us in love for one another. I can’t wait to see each of you and to gather on campus once again. So organize those picture albums on your phones and make arrangements to gather April 20–21, 2018, for Daisy Mae’s 45th reunion!
