Dear Class of 1987,
Other class letters open with, “Mark your calendars for April 21–22, 2017, and plan to join us on campus as we remember the good ol’ days at Agnes Scott and celebrate each other’s milestones and successes over the past decade(s) …”
Here is ours:
Pah pa-RAH! Pah pa-RAH! Pah pa-RAH!
According to legend, three blasts sound from Robin’s great horn and the Merry Men appear.
Yo Merry Men of ’87,
I send thee tidings of our 30th class reunion festivities. A group of boisterous ladies (your reunion committee and class officers) impressed and possibly scared the other reunion classes at last May’s reunion boot camp in true Merry Men style—“I’ll have what she’s having” (they are so jealous)—and planned an incredibly fun weekend to come as you are, see “old” friends and make new ones of people you thought you knew but never did. I know we’re half-a-century old now, but we certainly don’t have to act like it! So, don thee Lincoln greens and bycocket; grab thee long bow, arrows and sword; and get thee to Agnes Scott for an Alumnae Weekend of mirth and merriment April 21–22, 2017. Check it out at reunion-agnesscott.org.
For hīe, the fun starts Friday night. Assemble in the Alumnae Garden at 7 p.m. for our very special and classic ’80s Purple Rain party. It’s just us Merry Men on this occasion, and we plan to rock out to all those timeless movie tunes that just take your breath away or take you right into the danger zone. Don’t feel like rocking like Amadeus? “Yes … yes, well, this is nothing to worry about.” We’ll have big chill tables where you can think about your farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills. It’ll take some real genius not to have a good time. Attire is come-as-you-are casual, with ’80s wear optional. Just don’t let Barry Manilow know you raided his wardrobe!
Saturday night, we’ll take over The Hub (part of it, at least) for our buffet dinner party social at 6 p.m. that we’re calling Merry Men Merriment. You don’t want to miss it this year. I can’t put it all into words, but there will be more ’80s music, a slideshow blast from the past courtesy of our own Angela Tonn and other surprises. Bring your significant other, your party shoes and your Scottie attitude. But get that mani-pedi, because you may lose the shoes later on; we’re going to be there until security kicks us out! There’s something vaguely familiar about that. Anyway, thank God alumnae worship is actually on Saturday morning. Attire is festive casual.
Here are a few serious words. I’m so excited to be your reunion chair. I just want to see you there. I miss you. I also miss my waistline and the high rack I used to have, but all things must come to an end. It seems that’s where everything ended up (crickets). Hey, it wouldn’t be classic Babs without a little digression.
In the King’s English: The horn has sounded. Your presence is requested. See details on our class Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/ASCMerryMen/, Twitter, etc. Registration details are included in the enclosed brochure; however, go to your calendar right now, find the boxes for April 21 and 22 of next year, and write ROAD TRIP in all caps; delete everything else from the 20th through the 23rd. Now call your secretary or log on to Priceline to book your travel and hotel accommodations. Be like a Nike and just do it! Seventy-four days and a wakeup and it will be Alumnae Weekend.
Snooze, you lose!
Be there or be square!

P.S. We doubled the alcohol budget by recommendation. (It really was by demand—we are the only ones.)
P.P.S. Don’t forget to give to the college in honor of our 30th reunion—just go to give.agnesscott.edu.
